I'm sharing something very close to my heart that I've never opened up about here before.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EEvery two minutes, one case of breast cancer is diagnosed in a woman in the U.S. Do you know anyone who has been affected? I do.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003EI also know first-hand the rush of emotions and helpless feelings upon receiving a cancer diagnosis. Although it wasn’t breast cancer, you never expect to hear the word \u003Ci style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"\u003Ecancer\u003C\/i\u003E from your doctor, yet it begins a series of life-changing discussions and decisions. Three years after what was supposed to be a routine check-up, I still think about that day. Instead, I used that race to run out my emotions: fear, anger, helplessness, and ended up beating my own PR by several minutes. (A goal I had been trying to accomplish during months of training.) The photo above was taken when I finished the race, and has become a very important reminder of how I pushed through a tough race and am stronger than I give myself credit for. One of my goals for this year is to volunteer my time for a cause I believe in and, up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t know where to start.
