My Style: Burgundy Midi Skirt

Burgundy for fall... groundbreaking.

But seriously - I think it's safe to say that each year, burgundy is the "it" color for fall. Whether it's in the form of a dress, shoes, a cross body bag or work tote, or jeans in a bold burgundy... I seriously can't get enough!

Ever since I purchased this burgundy midi skirt, I've been wearing it non stop and didn't realize just how versatile it is until I got tired of wearing the same top with it. Now I've worn it with a tan sweater, striped tee, a black faux leather top, a sleeveless navy top... the list goes on. I wanted to try a different work look for the cooler weather, so I grabbed another fall staple: a classic white button up shirt. They're both definitely pieces that we all need in our closets, right ladies? Oh the possibilities!

What's everyone up to this weekend? I'll be trading this outfit for some different pieces since I'll be camping with my family up in Pennsylvania. I'm so excited for a fun trip and not worrying about packing anything but cozy plaid, sweats, long sleeve tops, fuzzy socks and a puffer vest. Bring on the s'mores!

My Style: Denim Dress

September 23, 2016

Naturally Me, Target Denim Dress, Old Navy Bucket Bag, Tan Bucket Bag, Anthropologie Jasper & Jeera Striped Espadrilles, Pink Espadrilles, Fall Outfit, Transitional Outfit

DRESS: Target [similar] // ESPADRILLES: Anthropologie [love these] //
BAG: Old Navy [love this one] //

Since I felt my denim dress from this post has gotten too short (I'm turning crazy since turning 31, I tell ya), I was on the hunt for a dark denim dress. Then one day, I finally found the perfect one from Target (shocking) when I wasn't even looking (also shocking).

Now that I think about it, my Targets finds usually happen that way, so major high five to whoever designed the store to make missing the clothing section impossible. And for having the best clothes, obviously. #targetdoesitagain

Anywho, I've had this denim dress all summer and despite the super hot temperatures, it's been a work wear staple because my office is freezing. Luckily my job is pretty laid back, so I've been having a lot of fun mixing different accessories with it to create different looks. I've spent all summer wearing it with sandals, wedges and espadrilles - but now I've got fall on the brain for obvious reasons. I'm definitely keeping this dress in my closet as the temps drop since it will transition perfectly with a light scarf and booties!

5 Fitness Favorites, Vol. 1

September 21, 2016

Hi loves!

In addition to Friday's #MyStyle post, I've been planning out more regular content for this little blog and I thought it would be fun to start a series where I share a few of my favorite things a la Oprah - except affordable.

5 Fitness Favorites

The possibilities are endless: active wear, workout accessories, food (nothing sponsored, unless noted) and perhaps even a really good article I think you should read. My goal for this series is that you find these favorites helpful - especially if it's a product or item that you've been thinking about trying.

As always, feel free to leave a comment, email (alissakelly1 at gmail.com) or tweet if there's anything you think I should try to include in my fitness favorites, or any other posts you'd like to see. I hope you like this new series as much as I do! :)

Let's get started with my current top 5 fitness favorites, shall we?

1. Flip Belt

5 Fitness Favorites, Naturally Me, Flip Belt, Workout Accessory, The Flip Belt

The whole time I've been working out (3+ years now) I've had a Nike armband to put my phone in. Mad love for ya, Nike, but man alive those armbands suck. The plastic cover got so worn out I couldn't use my phone and it wouldn't stay on my arm once the velcro decided to quit working. (So much fun to deal with when you're in the middle of bicep curls.)

I've gone through 2 and finally had enough, but this girl needs her workout music, so once I found Flip Belt I thought it could be a good product to try. I looked at them online, then my local running store sent me a $15 off coupon so I stopped in to find something to buy - and they had Flip Belts! I ended up getting mine for $8! Totally meant to be. (Pssst - it comes in 9 different colors, too.)

A couple months later, I use it every day at the gym and love love love it. (Yes, that's 3 loves.) It holds the key to my gym locker, phone and anything else I need. Plus, I love not having my phone on my arm and it's easy to take out if I need to do so. Game changer.

Where to buy: FlipBelt.com, Bed Bath & Beyond, Dick's Sporting Goods, Target, or your local running/sport store.

2. RX Bars

5 Fitness Favorites, Naturally Me, RX Bar, Pumpkin Spice Protein Bar, Basic, Pumpkin Spice, Fall, Delicious Protein Bars

Yet another protein bar on the market, right? Wrong! If you're new to RX Bars, they're protein bars with no BS. Seriously, every single one has just a handful of ingredients right on the front of each package and no added sugar.

I received an email for 15% off + free shipping so I thought it was the perfect time to try them. Plus, 2 words: pumpkin spice. Sold. I immediately ordered a box of 12 because I was pretty sure I wouldn't hate them. Result: I need to stock up on that deliciousness before they're gone (since they're limited edition). #basic

Sidenote: Not only do these bars taste SO GOOD, the company's customer service is on point. You may have seen on Snapchat (kelllybelllly) that my package arrived as 12 assorted flavors instead of the box of 12 pumpkin spice bars I thought was coming. I reached out to RX Bar and they immediately shipped a new order free of charge. Can't thank Alyssa and the RX Bar team enough for that!

So far I've tried the apple cinnamon, chocolate sea salt, mint chocolate and pumpkin spice. My favorites by far are the apple cinnamon and pumpkin spice!

Where to buy: online at rxbar.com or check their store locator.

3. Gardein Products

5 Fitness Favorites, Naturally Me, Gardein Products, Vegan Protein, Plant-Based Meals, Healthy Meals, Meatless Meatballs, 7 Grain Crispy Tenders

In case you haven't heard of Gardein (garden + protein = Gardein), they are Vegan, all natural, plant-based meatless meals that are made with soy, wheat, ancient grains (like quinoa!) and veggies.

I first tried Gardein products at the DC Yoga Expo in August and was really surprised at how good they were. We got a coupon in our goody bags, so I figured I'd get one of their products to try beyond one bite.

Aside from being a little bit expensive for my taste (ha), they are really yummy! Out of their 30 products, I've tried the Meatless Meatballs and the Seven Grain Crispy Tenders so far and loved both. There's no weird texture or taste (which I can't stomach) and it seriously tastes like I'm eating real meat - especially the tenders!

Where to buy: Safeway, Giant, Target, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Wegman's. Find a store near you here.

4. Walden Farms Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

5 Fitness Favorites, Naturally Me, Walden Farms, Walden Farms Balsamic Dressing, Healthy Salad Dressing

I haven't had Ranch dressing in I don't know how long, but all I need in my life is Walden Farms Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. Seriously. If you follow me on Snapchat (kelllybelllly), you might have noticed I put this sh!t on everything. Okay, just salads and veggies really, but I eat a lot of that stuff on a daily basis.

This seriously tastes like regular Balsamic dressing from any other brand name. While it does contain a bit more sodium than I'd like, the calories, fats, carbs and sugar are all zero so I can feel pretty guilt-free when I eat it. #winning

Next, I NEED to try Walden Farms' pancake syrups. I know they're sold online but I haven't been able to find any in store yet. (If you've seen it, do tell!)

Where to buy: Amazon, Giant, Harris Teeter, Super Fresh, Vitacost, Walden Farms.

5. Lenny & Larry's The Complete Cookie

5 Fitness Favorites, Naturally Me, Lenny & Larry's The Complete Cookie, Protein Cookie, Healthy Sweets, Sweet Treat, Vegan Cookies
Image Via

I do have a sweet tooth but I'm trying to find ways to indulge a little more health-conscious. (Today, I am officially done with the 21 day no processed sugar challenge.. look out!!)

A few months ago, I spotted The Complete Cookie and I was curious so I bought the double chocolate cookie and oh m'goodness it was delicious! They're chewy which is how a cookie should be and they have a great taste.

I imagined them as an ice cream sandwich, the base of a sundae, or crumbled on top of a bowl of ice cream. They're Vegan, non-GMO and packed with 16g of protein and 8g of fiber but you wouldn't even know that they're a much better indulgence.

Where to buy: LennyLarry.com, Amazon, Bodybuilding.com, GNC, Rite Aide, The Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts?

10 Healthy Foods To Eat Before Yoga

September 19, 2016

Everyone, I'm alive! And the escape room was so much fun even if we didn't find the key to the door and get out in time. I highly recommend you go if there's one in your area! Now, let's get into today's post!

Not only does what you wear to a yoga class matter, but it's also important what you eat before a yoga class. After all, (the right) food is fuel! As I continue to celebrate #NationalYogaMonth here on Naturally Me, I figured I'd share 10 healthy foods to eat before yoga.

Naturally Me, 10 Healthy Foods To Eat Before Yoga, Yoga, 10 Snacks To Eat Before Yoga, Protein Bars, National Yoga Month

During a class, you don't want to feel full or weighed down, but not weak and hungry either. Focus on eating foods that are nutrient-dense, easy to digest and don't contain simple carbs which are sugars found in soda, cereal and baked goods. Eating about an hour before class works best for me.

Here is a list of foods that will keep you focused during your next yoga flow:

1. A Banana

This is my favorite pre-yoga snack! Bananas are potassium-rich, which keeps your body properly hydrated and, because they contain magnesium, they also help prevent cramps and bloating. I always notice when I haven't had a banana in a few days because I get leg cramps.

2. A Protein Bar

Naturally Me, Protein Bars, RX Bars, Snack, What To Eat Before Yoga, Healthy Snacks To Eat Before Yoga, Pre Yoga Snacks

If I'm running low on food, or time, before a yoga class I always reach for a protein bar. (Clif Builder's Bars and RX Bars are my FAVORITE!) They're great because they're quick to eat, yet keep me full enough to get through the class. Plus, any excuse to eat chocolate..... ;)

3. A Smoothie

Smoothies are always a good pre yoga (or workout) treat. They're easy on your stomach and you can always make them ahead of time to grab-and-go. My favorite smoothie is a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder, almond milk, frozen fruit and ice.

4. Plain/Unsalted Almonds

These guys help to boost energy while keeping your hunger at bay. They contain potassium, magnesium, and vitamin E, helping you to stay hydrated and giving your muscles staying power.

5. Oatmeal with Fresh Fruit

Naturally Me, Oatmeal, Steel Cut Oats, Berries, Fruit, Strawberries and Banana, Oatmeal and Strawberries, Oatmeal and Bananas

As long as you have it a least an hour before your class so it can digest properly, oatmeal is a great option. It has a lot of magnesium to support your energy levels. Plus, adding some fruit is never a bad thing either... hello natural sugar! I used to hate blueberries but now I eat them in my oatmeal everyday.

6. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is packed with protein that will give you sustained energy to flow through your Vinyasa. Sometimes I even add a little bit of granola for some crunch.

7. Avocado Toast

Our bodies do need some carbs before a workout for additional energy, so I love good old avocado toast. Ezekiel bread (or any sprouted grain bread) is a healthier option that's flour-free and has natural enzymes to support digestion. Plus, avocados are a healthy fat which our bodies need. And who doesn't love avocado toast?!

8. Apples or Pears

These fruits (along with bananas, oatmeal and yogurt) have a low glycemic index which will help fuel your performance for longer periods of time.

9. Almond Butter

Almond butter is another healthy fat which full of fiber that is also a source of energy. Try almond butter with Greek yogurt, cinnamon and unsweetened coconut slices before class.

10. Dried Apricots

If you don’t have time to prepare anything before it’s time to hit your mat, dried fruits like apricots are good; they’re low in acidity and the natural sugars will help give you energy. Plus, they are an easy snack to toss in your bag.

What do you like to eat before yoga?

P.S. - For those of you in the DC area, don't forget there are several awesome yoga events coming up including Yoga On The Mall! Get all the details here!

My Style: Aeropostale Crop Top

We made it to Friday!

I just had to wear these pants again before the fall weather is actually upon us. Way back in this outfit post, I played it a little safe, but this time I wanted to try adding a patterned crop top from Aeropostale to the mix and actually like the way it turned out.

What's everyone up to this weekend? I'll be going to an escape room so if you don't hear from me on Monday - send a search party. (Follow along on Snapchat - kelllybelllly for all the action.) There's also park time in the near future... always my favorite weekend activity. Bring on the sunshine and perhaps a volleyball match or two!

Have a wonderful weekend, loves!

Changes I'm Making In My Workout

September 12, 2016

I can't believe it, but it has been over 3 years since I've been a Gold's Gym member. Man, time flies when you're having fun (a.k.a working out at least 6 days a week)!

Gold's Gym, Gym Member, Gold's Gym Member, Back Day, Back Workout, Flex Friday, Naturally Me, Back Flex

Gym Schedule, Workout Schedule, Gym Time, Daily Workout Schedule, Park Workout, Outdoor Workout, Nike Sneakers, Nike Tennis Shoes, Naturally Me

Reflecting on the past few years has really made me incredibly happy that I decided to put my health higher up on the list than in previous years. But, I'm also looking forward and adjusting goals that I set for myself. After all, it's about making ourselves better and stronger - both mentally and physically. My biggest competition is myself.

Gold's Gym, Workout, Naturally Me

The past few weeks, I've haven't felt like my training is progressing to where I want to be. Our bodies adapt to workouts after just a couple weeks of repeating the same process. They're pretty smart.... they know what's comin'! That's why it's important to switch it up every 2-3 weeks and why I've made some changes to my training.

Before I share those changes, here is a breakdown of what my training and eating looked like for this year so far:

Old Gym Schedule

Monday: Shoulders
Tuesday: Back
Wednesday: Legs/Glutes
Thursday: Chest
Friday: Arms
Saturday: Glutes
Sunday: Rest or active rest

Old Eating Plan

I was still following the 21 Day Fix Extreme eating plan with a weekend indulgence. However, in the spirit of summer, indulgences have happened a little more often because I can't pass up ice cream. Or froyo. Or donuts.

Gym Schedule, Workout Schedule, Gym Time, Daily Workout Schedule, Naturally Me

Now it's time to focus on increasing my training intensity and cleaning up my eating a bit more, so here's my new (current) training plan:

Monday: Shoulders + Triceps
Tuesday: Legs/Glutes + Chest
Wednesday: Back + Biceps
Thursday: Legs/Glutes
Friday: Compound movements
Saturday: Sprints, agility runs + core
Sunday: Rest or active rest

Here's why I changed my gym schedule:

I'm now incorporating 2 body parts into my daily workout to get more out of my gym time. (I've also started doing push ups, jumping jacks, etc in between sets with little rest to keep my heart rate up.)

Because I want to focus more on building my legs, I'm now working legs/glutes twice a week. I know, I know it's SHOCKING that I'm not doing #bootywerk on Wednesdays anymore but I've noticed the gym is considerably less crowded on Tuesdays & Thursdays so I can actually use a squat rack.

By Friday, I'll have already hit each zone, so I'm using that day to practice my compound movements. (Cleans, hip thrusters, dead lifts, snatches, jerks, etc.) Plus, a little extra total-body work never hurt anyone.

Saturdays are reserved for high intensity cardio such as hill sprints, and also abs. (I usually do abs everyday though.) Of course, our bodies do need rest so Sunday is the day for that, whether it's full rest or active rest (a leisurely hike, kayaking, neighborhood walk).

New Eating Plan

I'm still eating clean, however I am no longer using the 21 Day Fix Extreme plan and instead have been counting my macros for a few months now. I eat 5-6 times a day (approximately every 2.5-3 hours) to keep my metabolism moving. It's not often I hit my macros exactly, but it'll get easier with time.

I'm also currently 2 weeks into a 21-day no processed food/sugar challenge. The processed food part has been no problem, but staying away from sugar has definitely been a challenge! I've missed my occasional ice cream treat or morning doughnut when my coworker brings them in for everyone, but I'm holding strong!

I actually feel so much better when I say no than I would if I ate the doughnut. And as each day passes, I don't think about eating sweets as much. (Until I see someone with ice cream.)

Additional Thoughts

Mind-muscle connection: I've been making it a point to focus on the body parts I'm working while I'm doing each exercise. For example: if I'm working on back, while I'm performing bent over rows or pushups, I focus on squeezing my lats together and holding for a few seconds on each rep. That way, I know I'm working the correct area.

It's okay to skip a day: Not gonna lie, there are days when I'm (mostly) okay with missing a workout and days when I hate missing gym time.

Lately, my to-do list has included photo shoots and car service appointments that I have to get to right after work which is my workout time. When this does happen, I have to remember that it's okay to skip a day when I have important errands that I can't do any other time. Let's not beat ourselves up! Life happens. Like today, when I'll be sitting at the car shop after work... wishing I was at the gym. #truth

Here's to getting stronger each day and beating our own PRs... let's crush it! (If you're still reading, ha!) I'm loving my new training schedule so far and can't wait to see more results!

What's your workout schedule like?

P.S. - I am always sharing workouts, meal prep ideas, favorite products and more over on Snapchat (kelllybelllly) or Instagram so follow along there, too! (And don't forget about Insta stories!)

My Style: Coral Cutouts

JUMPSUIT: ASOS // HEELS: Jessica Simpson [love these] //

I still love a good off the shoulder piece, but apparently the new "it" thing is open back. That's one of the first details I noticed in this amazing jumpsuit, along with the summery coral color.

This outfit was what I wore to my now sister-in-law's bridal shower and my Grandma loved it just as much as I do. After the shower was over, she reminisced with me about when she used to wear jumpsuits and gushed about how happy she is that "they're back". (She's still one stylish lady so I must be doing something right!) I'm happy they're back, too - this one is a great addition to my closet. I should've asked her for advice on how to wear this jumpsuit into fall because I'm not ready to put it away yet!
