I know, I know... it's spring, but I just wanted to experiment with an all black look. I've been after a pair of black jeans for a while now and finally found the perfect ones from Old Navy. I have a few pairs of their Rockstar skinny jeans and absolutely love them: they're a tad bit stretchy, hold up well after regular washing, super affordable and (duh) they look amazing on. So I didn't hesitate to get a black pair and these did not disappoint either! PS: I never realized just how slimming black is until I wore it from head to toe!

How To Stick To A Regular Yoga Practice

March 21, 2016

I don't know about you but the smallest hints of spring we've had these past few weeks has made me feel rejuvenated and happier. Thanks to more daylight, I don't feel as rushed after work and just want to spend all my time outdoors soaking up the sun plus hearing birds chirping in the morning as I'm leaving for work just makes me smile.

I cannot wait to take my yoga practice outdoors again (hence the lack of yoga posts) and keep sharing my journey with you guys. Since I've been practicing yoga for almost 2 years, I have not only grown and learned a lot, but I've also discovered ways that makes it easier to stick to a regular yoga practice - beginner or not. Keep reading for my tips, plus what I always have in my yoga bag!

Find the type of yoga you like - There are so many types of yoga (bikram, hot yoga, kundalini, hatha) it can feel intimidating especially when starting your practice. I really believe it's important to find the type of yoga that you love and this article can help. You're more likely to stick with it that way. (My favorite is Vinyasa yoga, but Hatha yoga is great for beginners.)

Try other types of classes - This may sound contradictory, but in addition to your regular yoga practice, switch it up and experience new classes. I first discovered ARTOGA nearly a year ago and I've taken several classes since. I am hooked! It's a great way to rediscover my love of yoga in a totally different way.

Keep an extra yoga mat in your car (or at work) - I discovered this on accident because one Saturday I was scheduled to take a yoga class and realized I forgot my yoga mat at home. I ended up stopping at TJ Maxx to grab one and I now keep it in the trunk of my car. Now I don't ever have to remember to grab mine from home!

Sign up/pay for classes in advance - Some yoga studios don't require you to sign up, but most places I've been to encourage it so you're guaranteed a spot. (Classes fill up quickly, especially on the weekends!) I've really found that if you sign up and pay for a spot (or even a monthly membership), you're more likely to actually go to the class and not waste your hard-earned money. It's money well spent, in my opinion!

There are so many benefits of yoga, but it also helps to have a great yoga mat and accessories, especially if you plan on practicing regularly. Shop all my yoga essentials below!

My Style: Joe Fresh

CHAMBRAY SHIRT: Target [similar] // JOGGERS: Joe Fresh //
PUMPS: Target [similar here and here] // SUNNIES: LOFT [similar] *on sale! //

I am not sure what I'm more excited about: the fact that these joggers were $15 or the fact that I can literally wear them so many different ways. They're crazy comfortable and I'm not totally convinced they're in the "dress pants" category but hey, I'm not complaining. Throw on a chambray shirt and heels and revel in the fact that you're basically wearing pajamas to work. Clearly, I have a thing for joggers.

Spring Workout Gear Guide

March 16, 2016

Once I find a good thing, I want to buy so many versions. I'm looking at you, black leggings! Throughout winter, I've been on a black workout legging kick especially ones with mesh. You can never go wrong with black, whether in leggings, dresses or heels, amirite?

I'll love my black leggings forever, but we're only 5 days away from the official start of spring so it's time to update my gym wear for the warmer weather. Soon, I'll be saying bye to most of my full length leggings (especially my fleece lined pairs) and grabbing my capris and shorts. Not complaining though!

Here are some ways to keep your sweat style fresh for spring.

Pastels/Pantone Colors - In case you missed it, the Pantone Colors for spring include rose quartz, peach echo, buttercup and limpet shell. I love the idea of updating your active wear with these soothing colors!

Florals - Florals are always in for spring (#groundbreaking), so why not sport it at the gym too? I wear these floral Calia by Carrie capris on the regular and definitely want to get a new pair or 2 of floral leggings.

Light Layers - The weather this week has been cloudy, yet sort of warm and windy which makes it hard to figure out what to wear. Luckily layers are your friend! Whether you're heading to the gym, a yoga class or kickboxing, you'll always be able to shed layers once you start to get your sweat on - and then easily throw a layer or 2 back on if it's chilly outside.

White Sneakers - It's no secret white sneakers are back and go with everything which is why they go quickly every time I stalk my favorite pairs. They're perfect for a day in DC, or going from gym to brunch. Your feet will definitely thank you!

If you're looking for another alternative, I recently read an article on Adidas Avenue A - a new subscription box service for fitness lovers. For $150 you get a package of 3-5 curated items (footwear, apparel, accessories) delivered to you four times a year. Each item is picked by fitness gurus, including Madonna's personal trainer! Sign me up!

What's on your active wear list for spring?

It's not "officially" spring for 9 more days but the weather tells a completely different story. Hello sunshine, warm weather and extra daylight! And hello, my first pair of over the knee boots... where have you been all my life and how have I gone so long without you? I'm so excited to finally add a pair to my closet. Until I get a pedicure and my feet are ready to be exposed to the public, I'll enjoy wearing these boots with all the dresses I own.

Purchases with a Purpose

March 7, 2016

Cute active wear and accessories are a must, but when your purchase helps people in need, you can't help but feel even better about spending money on items you can use every day. I've found a few companies that take an extra step in caring where your hard earned money goes, so I wanted to share the love.

Purchases with a purpose, activewear, Live Lokai, Bombas socks, socks, Spiritual Gangster, Yoga, yoga clothes, yoga wear, monday motivation

Live Lokai - The white bead carries water from Mount Everest, and the black bead has mud from the Dead Sea - the highest and lowest points on earth to remind us to stay balanced. Such a great message! I wear mine every day and knowing that 10% of profits are donated to charities makes me feel even better about spending my money. When the special colored bracelets come out, each one benefits a certain charity.

Bombas - Two words: colorful socks. Okay, they're also specially made for arch support which really comes in handy during tough workouts and long runs. Did you know socks are the most requested item in homeless shelters? For every pair of Bombas purchased, the company will donate a pair to a shelter. Over 900,000 pairs have been donated already!

Spiritual Gangster - If you're looking for inspiring yoga clothing, you have to check out Spiritual Gangster. They're all about positivity and giving back. For every item sold, proceeds are donated to provide a meal to a person in need. The tanks are totally worth it, and how cute are these star sweatpants?

I'm sure these are just some of the companies that give back so if you have any other companies with a similar purpose, do share!

TGIF, for realz.

Has this been a long week for anyone else?

It's been a super challenging one for me: after having mouth surgery a little over a week ago, I haven't felt like myself and have had to take unexpected time off from my daily workouts.

Since chewing is difficult, I've been stuck eating applesauce, ice cream, yogurt, cream of wheat (and now some pasta).. anything that's easy to swallow, but it's not nearly enough to help fuel my body for workouts.

In the few times I've tried to work out, I felt very sluggish and tired. Talk about a different experience than I usually have at the gym! Needless to say, it's been extremely frustrating. Mentally I'm more than ready to slip on my Nike's and gloves and get to work, but physically, my body just isn't ready since it's pretty much running on fumes.

Hopefully I'll be back to 100% soon, but in the meantime, cheers to a relaxing weekend!
