Spring Trend: Bright Bags

February 27, 2013

I've officially moved past winter and its random snowfalls, freezing rain, wind and dropping temperatures. Now I've got spring on the brain so I'm going to be sharing some top spring fashion trends the next couple weeks until the calendar hits March 20th. That day, let's open up a bottle of wine and celebrate because spring is finally here.

Today's spring trend is all about bright bags that can really change any look - from a maxi dress to blazer. I've included a whole rainbow of (very affordable) bags for you because a girl's gotta have options and these all just scream spring! I guess not only do I have a thing for bright colored bags, but also crossbody bags. Sometimes I just don't want to hold a purse.

Which bag is your favorite?

Gap Staples

February 26, 2013

I always gush about my favorite trends, but what about the closet staples that are incredibly versatile and never go out of style? They need love, too! While I do have a pretty good amount of clothes, I only have a handful of staple items that I wear year-round. And guess what...my top items are all from Gap! Each of the items below were purchased at least 4 years ago, yet I wear them 24/7 and they've held up so well. Let's start with my first Gap staple: the v-neck tee.

Left Outfit Here / Right Outfit Here

I wear this thing dressed up, down and even around the house. It's soft, not tight-fitting yet not overly loose. (You can tie it or tuck it - as shown!) Pretty sure I need to get it in additional colors.

Outfit Here

Gap closet staple number two: the navy blazer. Though I wear it all the time - I have 1 outfit post to show for it. Shameful. (Now I know what I need to style more of for you guys to see!) But trust me when I say I wear this navy blazer a lot.

Left Outfit Here / Right Outfit Here

The last (but not least) staple from Gap I've been getting tons of use out of has been my white jeans. They're the perfect neutral year-round, especially during the winter months and, just like the other items, can easily be dressed up or down.

These specific items aren't available, however I found identical versions (all from Gap of course) that you can scoop up now. Trust me, you'll get your money's worth!

Do you have any additional staple items in your closet?

Weekend Sequins

February 25, 2013

Top: LOFT [similar] / Jacket: Forever 21 / Jeans: Candie's [similar] /

In my opinion, sequins are just as fun on the weekend so I had to take some along on our cabin getaway. I was definitely the only one on the Yuengling factory tour wearing any type of shiny objects but why not wear sequins while learning how beer is made. (It was so cool!)

I also packed my new Gigee Marie clutch to pair with my sequins. I've recently been into the clear clutch trend and Angela, the lovely face behind Gigee Marie, just came out with her own version which I had to have. It is even more perfect in person (and majorly affordable)! The gold detailing paired with the transparent front works so well together. If you haven't check out Gigee Marie - you must! All her clutches are hand made, always on trend - and she recently added jewelry.

Friday Favorites

February 22, 2013

Good Friday morning from the cabin in the middle of nowhere! Even though my cell phone is off due to no service - I'm still blogging and have a roundup of some friday favorites.

1. Treat yourself to new jewelry using the special INPINK code for 30% off! Jewelry is like shoes - you can never have enough... and you deserve it ;)

2. In the works - a collaboration with the fabulous Gigee Marie! If you haven't checked out her site - be sure to! So many amazing pieces.

3. Packing for the cabin isn't nearly as complicated as other trips, and I knew right away my new Forever 21 jacket had to come with me.

4. I'm going on my first beer tour this weekend and it's a requirement to wear closed-toe shoes. This is not a problem since it's winter, but tennis shoes are boring so I'm thinking these boots will be much more fabulous. [similar & more affordable pair here]

Clear Clutches

I'm over on DC On Heels today talking the clear clutch trend and how much I love it!! Check it out here!

Forever 21 Finds

Forever 21 Finds by alissakelly featuring forever 21

It's been a while since I've shopped at Forever 21, but now I'm finding myself wanting to add so many items from there to my closet- especially anything with stripes. The store is killing it with the selection of tops and bags. So many studded, striped, bright items - many of which I have added to my wish list. If you're looking for affordable but on-trend jewelry, too - check out Forever 21! You can find everything from pearls to spikes. I'd be lying if I said I don't own any of these items. (My no-buy February isn't going so well.)

Have you been eyeing up anything from Forever 21 lately?

P.S. Don't forget you can shop my closet by checking out my Pinterest board!

Cooking & Polka Dots

February 19, 2013

Shirt: J.Crew Factory [similar] / Jeans: H&M [similar] / Flats: C-Label via Piperlime.com /
Bag: Forever 21 / Bracelets: Forever 21, Eastern Market, Mane Message /

There is something calming and fun about cooking for me. I love putting on music and making a favorite meal, or trying a new recipe. I've always wanted to take a cooking class so Ashlyn and I decided to plan a little Valentine's Day brunch cooking class for our boys - and it was SO much fun!

We learned the proper way to handle a knife, cut veggies, saute, poach an egg and laughed along the way. The menu was delicious: flavorful scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, hollandaise sauce, a sweet potato hash.... yum! (The only thing I didn't like was the complimentary bloody mary.) It was such a great time with great friends!

See some photos from the class below!

Jeans & a Blazer

February 18, 2013

Blazer: Zara [similar] / Shirt: Forever 21 [similar] / Jeans: Gap [similar] /
Heels: unknown [similar & on major sale!] / Bag: Forever 21 /

This freezing cold weather is making it really hard to look cute - while trying not to live in my black turtleneck every single day. And let's be honest - it's way too frigid to bare any leg (who's ready for spring??) so I'm now turning to jeans. Once I found my favorite Gap pair, I decided to add a bright yellow Zara blazer and an old polka dot shirt. A perfect combination to beat the winter blues!

Plaid & Yellow

February 15, 2013

Plaid Shirt: Gap [similar] / Jeans: LOFT [similar] / Boots: Steve Madden [similar] /
Necklace: Jewelmint [similar] /

I have found the perfect plaid shirt (from Gap) and now I want to wear it all the time. I definitely have plans to dress it up but first I wanted to try pairing it with yellow jeans. Some may think I look like I'm off to ride a horse but I'm loving the combo of plaid and yellow. Also - on the hunt for cognac boots? The ones below are from Target and look exactly like my Steve Madden pair! Target - you're fantastic.

Happy Friday!

Pink & Red

February 14, 2013

Coat: ASOS [similar & on major sale!] / Sweater: J.Crew Factory / Pants: J.Crew /
Heels: Prabal Gurung x Target / Clutch: Alloy [love this one] /
Jewelry: necklace c/o Glamour Me Jewels, Forever 21 bracelet /

Love is in the air! Ok - I'm not going to get sappy on you because it's Valentine's Day. Promise. But I am going to gush about how much I love the red + pink color combo. I've been wanting to try it forever but didn't have the right items to pull it off... until now. (And what better day to try it??) I am so happy with the way it turned out. Bold, bright and so much fun with the leopard coat added in. Matt didn't feel the same way, however. When he first saw my outfit he looked at me like I was crazy and said "That doesn't match." Men, what do they know?!

P.S. The Prabal Gurung x Target heels are so comfortable. It was love at first sight... and wear! Oh and there's still time to enter my giveaway!
