Gap Floral Sateen Dress

April 30, 2013

Dress: Gap / Heels: Steve Madden [similar] / Clutch: Stephanie Johnson /
Nail Polish: Essie "To Buy Or Not To Buy" / Lipstick: Revlon Lip Butter in "Tutti Frutti" /

My Saturday night was spent gambling at a casino in Pittsburgh for my BFF's bachelorette party - and it was a lot of fun! (I limited myself to $20 and played a few slot machines like a champ, leaving with just over $10 - in which I gave myself a mental high five.)

I also took a gamble of sorts buying this Gap floral sateen dress because as soon as I saw this beauty online I HAD to have it. Gap does a dress so well.... the cut is incredibly flattering and you know I'm addicted to floral. (NOT flattering: the bright pink bracelet slapped on by the casino guards after showing my ID.)

6 Spring Sneakers To Buy Now

April 26, 2013

I am not into the whole wedge-sneaker-hi-top shoe craze that's happening.. but I'm certainly not opposed to flats. Lately I've been looking for some spring sneakers that I can wear on trips to the bay or to play DC tourist with a pair of boyfriend jeans so I researched and found some favorites!

I think my first pick are the Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. Talk about the perfect neutral shoe that can be worn with anything. Vans also has great sneakers - in a lot of bold (and neutral) colors. And can we talk about the striped Kate Spade pair? Get on my feet now!

Do you own any of these pairs? How do you like them?

A Celebration

April 25, 2013

Top: Prabal Gurung for Target / Jeans: Gap [similar] / Heels: Aldo [on sale!] / Clutch: Gigee Marie
Nail Polish: Essie "Blanc" / Lipstick: NARS "Niagra" /

Who knew the first time I'd slip on my new silver Aldo pumps, it would be for a rare dinner celebration last night? (For now, it has to stay a secret - but know that it's exciting enough we splurged on a bottle of wine!) As for my outfit - I can't believe I am in black and white. Again. I am still in love with the classic combo and gave this perfect pairing an update with a black lace Prabal Gurung top and silver pumps.

Striped Top: LOFT [similar] / Chambray Shirt: Old Navy [similar] / Pants: J.Crew /
Wedges: H&M [similar] / Bag: Steve Madden [similar] / Watch: Fossil via /
Bracelets: Eastern Market, Forever 21, Derng / Sunnies: LOFT / Nail Polish: Essie "Blanc" /

In trying to get more use out of my red J.Crew Cafe Capri pants, I went back into my closet and found some stripes, sequins and chambray to add. The result is pretty much the closest thing to dressed up nautical I can think of. (Ok, this outfit could pass, too.) I know I say this a lot, but it's my new favorite outfit!

Linking up with IFB's "Show Us Your Stripes" project!

Top: Target / Jacket: H&M [similar] / Jeans: Forever 21 / Cuff: Tory Burch [similar] /
Nail Polish: Essie "Blanc" /

I went into Target for some face wash and came out with this neon top and white Essie nail polish. While I'm still not sure I love the white nail polish, this neon top is everything! It's a great quality, just sheer enough and the most bold neon yellow ever. It's the perfect addition to my wardrobe - especially for spring!

Spring & Summer Lipstick Picks

April 22, 2013

I don't know about you but I've already tucked away my "winter" lipstick shades and switched to spring/summer mode with my beauty products. In an attempt to go bold with my lipstick, I've added several new bright shades to my arsenal.

spring summer lipsticks

1. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in "Tutti Frutti" - The peachy hue looks a lot more shocking in the tube. Once on, it's subtle but bright and lasts a while. Plus the mango, shea and coconut butter make this lipstick buttery soft.... much better than chapstick!

2. NARS Lipstick in "Niagra" - The NARS brand sure knows lipstick and after I got "Schiap", I wanted to try another color. Niagra is a satin pinkish coral and I really love it against a neon top!

3. Dior Addict Lip Glow - I was skeptical to try this at its price tag but, thanks to a Sephora gift card, I gave it a whirl and LOVE it! It goes on so smoothly and changes color, depending on your complexion. With my pale skin it turns to a soft glossy pink.

4. Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in "Blush Twist" - I usually pick up some sort of lip product when I'm in Target and I had a coupon so I gave this a try. It doesn't last a long as some of the other lipsticks I have, but is still a nice light pink color.

5. Maybelline Color Whisper in "Pin Up Peach" - I would describe this as a peachy-pink color and another everyday product. It's also very soft and easy to apply.

Lipstick is such a great way to add more fun to an outfit. Do you have any favorite spring/summer lipsticks?

Goodies: Recent Buys

April 19, 2013

I figured it's been a while since you've seen any recent buys here on FGS - so keep reading to see what me and my bank account have been up to!

After working on this post and seeing my recent buys together, I realize a few things: my addiction to stripes keeps growing, Target STILL rocks (as if I ever thought otherwise) and I'm a sucker for sales. The item I'm probably most excited about are the silver Aldo pumps. I have been searching for a pair and after I saw these ones - my search was over. I will definitely get a lot of use out of them. Also, in case you're wondering, the J.Crew Factory Chino shorts are still on sale! Don't forget you can shop my closet anytime via my Pinterest board!

What are your recent buys?

Red Hot

April 18, 2013

Top: Jason Wu for Target [similar] / Skirt: LC Lauren Conrad [love this one] /
Heels: Enzo Angiolini [similar] / Belt: Target [similar] / Nail Polish: Essie "Meet Me At Sunset" /

A red top and tan/blush pleated skirt: two pieces I've had forever and didn't realize they matched until now. But of course, even with the red hot top, I decided to add a bit more interest to the outfit by matching my belt and shoes with a neutral - leopard, duh! (Is matching your belt & shoes a thing? 'Cause I like it occasionally.) Don't you just love it when a new outfit comes together with items you already own?

Cherry Blossoms

April 17, 2013

Top: Forever 21 [similar] / Jeans: J.Brand [similar] / Jacket: Delia's [similar] / Sandals: Gap [similar]/
Bag: Forever 21 / Necklace: Glam Grab / Sunnies: LOFT / Lip Gloss: Dior Addict Lip Glow

My favorite time of year in DC: when the cherry blossoms are out in full force against the most beautiful blue sky. Of course, I had to wear my pink J Brand jeans to match the blossoms like last year (sans frizzy, curly hair). It ended up being a gorgeous morning.. even with a slight chill, a jean jacket was all I needed.

Does anyone else like to match their outfit to flowers?

Red & White Stripes

April 16, 2013

Top: J.Crew Factory [similar] / Skirt: eShakti / Heels: ShoeMint [love these] / Clutch: Gigee Marie
Watch: Fossil via Piperlime / Necklace: Forever 21 [similar] / Sunnies: LOFT

With all this sun, I'm already thinking ahead to our summer trips on the bay. There's a lot of crabbing and boating in our future so what better way to get in the spirit than dressing nautical?? I built the outfit around this eShakti skirt with red and white stripes and knew right away my navy blue polka dot J.Crew shirt would be the perfect pairing. It was pretty amusing having to explain to Matt (my photog) why polka dots and stripes match. After I tried to convince him the patterns work together beautifully, he answered with "You look like Where's Waldo."
