Birthday Cake and a Giveaway! (Closed)

July 30, 2012

After several weeks, and amidst moving, switching addresses and no internet.. it's finally here: a new collaboration! This time with the local, and fabulous, Coco Rae nail lacquer!

CEO/Founder, Courtney Vines, is quickly becoming a powerhouse and it all began with a dream. Just like me, Courtney has an obsession for nail polish and believes it's a huge accessory to any outfit. In her words, "You can have on a simple outfit and bring the drama to your nails!" So you can image I was so excited when Courtney sent me sparkles in a bottle, aka Birthday Cake!

I knew right away I wanted to pair it with my favorite color, purple. (And it's too good for one statement nail, so I painted all 10.) And now I have a problem: I can't stop staring at my nails! The light catches every sparkle (and I love sparkles).

Another thing I love? Coco Rae nail lacquers are all made in the USA and are "4 free" (no toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and camphor). So you can feel even better about applying her amazing colors to your nails!

Courtney has graciously given me an extra bottle of nail lacquer to give away to one lucky FG reader!

Let The Games Begin!

July 27, 2012

I live for the Olympics... it's the only thing on TV I cannot miss. (Ok, besides Shark Week - but that's another post.) I've been on an Olympics craze already, and I'm loving Gap's new line of vintage T's and tanks for the Games. London galore, with nods to previous Olympic Games.

London 2012

What I also love about the line is the versatility. I can easily dress each piece down for the weekend with boyfriend jeans and sneakers to watch the Games with friends! You could even transition the tops to a more "dressy" outfit by throwing on skinny jeans, a blazer and pair of heels. That's so sporty spice!

I can't wait to go (virtually) across the pond for the next 17 days to watch my favorite events: gymnastics, swimming/diving and track & field! (Let's not forget the opening ceremony, too!) What are you most excited for during the Games?

Keep it simple, stupid.... especially when moving for at least five days straight. This dress is an oldie, but I can't seem to part with it! It's so easy to throw on and doesn't need a necklace thanks to the bejeweled neckline. I just couldn't resist adding pops of color with a bright bag and lips!

Jewelry: unknown leaf bracelet, J.Crew shamballa bracelet [similar], unknown earrings (old Christmas gift)

I'm baaack!

July 25, 2012

Didja miss me? After several days of moving, Home Depot runs, sawdust, vacuuming, unpacking boxes and anxiously awaiting internet - I have returned to the blogosphere... and with a great deal from Kohl's!

My Kohl's Picks

Kohl's has always been a favorite go-to store of mine for clothing. I love the Elle and LC Lauren Conrad lines [like this skirt] the most. It's a mecca of pretty fabrics, colors and patterns. If only I could buy it all! What I can do, however, is share a few of my favorites looks - all from Kohl's.

If you're ready to get your wallet out and shop online I have good news! Kohl's has graciously offered an exclusive 10% off code for kohl' Just enter BLOGIT10 at checkout. Offer good through August 23rd.

July 20, 2012

This week has been crazybusy, yet...not really. (Hard to explain, but just go with it.) A Home Depot run, packing boxes, stacking boxes to be moved, cleaning, waiting for phone calls, figuring out what to eat when all the food is packed.... you know, the usual #movingwoes. Here is a small look into our moving week via Instagram:

#OOTD Monday to invade Home Depot

Somehow we still managed to make a pretty good dinner

So. Many. Boxes. #movingwoes

I hate clutter! #movingwoes (Hi, Matt!)

The result of no more curtains on the windows & very little sleep.
#moving woes.

....but let's pick pain colors, shall we?

#OOTD Thursday: Settlement/Let the moving begin!!

Hi, I'm Oscar & I'm deathly afraid of thunderstorms...
so I'll just hide in this Home Depot box.

Chevron Inspired

July 19, 2012

Did you guys know that chevron symbolizes change? I never knew that until recently, but have been on a chevron craze [case in point: here and here] for a while now. Finding this tidbit out has inspired today's roundup of chevron galore! (I want those pillows.)

There is just something about the pattern that draws me in. When I discovered the meaning behind chevron, it got me thinking: there are big changes on the horizon for me, I've been through a lot of life changes and I hate change. I just need to put on my big girl pants and work on embracing change. After all it's not always horrible, right?

Purple Crush

July 18, 2012

Yesterday was a scorcher! Right now I'm all about dresses, my hair up and minimal jewelry! (My arm party has been partying too hard and it deserves a break.) Purple is my favorite color so needless to say I love this dress and will forever.... It is so comfortable and -bonus- has pockets! Plus, I'm loving the purple/tan/brown color combo right now!

How are you staying cooler in this heat??

Fashion Inspiration: SL

July 16, 2012

This month's installment of my Fashion Inspiration is the hilarious Stacy London from What Not To Wear. As I'm writing this, I'm watching the show (did you know reruns air at noon every day?) and have been since the very first episode. It's even a regular part of my Mom and I's phone conversations.

Stacy makes me laugh so hard during every show. Her fashion analogies are spot on and the ways she describes a contributor's mess of a wardrobe are amazing (and definitely not sugar coated)!

More importantly, I love Stacy's passion for helping WNTW contributors feel good in their skin... starting with clothes. The show is much deeper than a wardrobe re-do. It's an inspirational hour that drives home the point of my blog: you feel good when you dress and embrace your body.

I also love the way Stacy rocks the natural gray stripe in her hair. Most women (me included) would freak out and run to the salon, but Stacy embraces it. I think we could all learn much more from this woman besides how to dress.

Speaking of how to dress, can we talk about her wardrobe? Shut the front door! What I wouldn't give to shop Stacy's Closet. (Honestly, there is nothing I wouldn't give.)

Who is your fashion inspiration?

Red Shorts

July 15, 2012

My Saturday consisted of watching movies: an afternoon showing of Magic Mike with my girlfriend (wowsers) and at dusk, a free showing of We Bought A Zoo with Matt outside our apartment community center. I wanted to be comfortable so shorts and a tank it was! I also threw in a light scarf and jean jacket since I always get cold. They sure came in handy!

Floral in the Rough

July 13, 2012

Happy Friday!! This is for sure my best Forever 21 find (though I hardly shop there). It's floral, light, colorful and the perfect length for me. Couldn't help but add bright accessories, too! Do you have a favorite find that you just love every time you wear it?

Construction Zone

July 11, 2012

File this under a question I thought I'd never ask myself: What does one wear to a construction zone? I knew dirt would probably be involved, so I decided on cutoffs and a simple white tee. I didn't own any cutoff jean shorts (!), so I took scissors to a pair of old jeans and voila! A new pair of shorts and one less pair of jeans. Also, I had to add in some floral (sandals) and a neon necklace, which I now realize resembles a construction cone.

You might be asking why I'm trudging around in a construction zone. Matt and I bought a house! It's been a long road and several house walk-throughs but we'll be overseeing movers very soon and saying goodbye to apartment life. You all, my fashionable readers, are the first to see some of the inside! :)
