My First KitchenAid Dinner

December 29, 2011

I have been dying to use my KitchenAid - and I thought why not make pizza? I love pizza. I found an easy recipe that is phenomenal so I thought I'd pass on the love. :)

Homemade Pizza

Dough Ingredients:

1 tsp sugar
3/4 cup warm water
1 package rapid rise yeast
2 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp olive oil

1. Mix together the sugar, water and yeast. Let sit 3-5 minutes. (make sure it's frothy!)
2. Mix the flour and salt (I put it right in my KitchenAid bowl, with my dough hook) then add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix well until a ball of dough forms.
3. Drizzle olive oil in a bowl, place dough inside turning once to coat. Let rise for 45 min - 1 hour

Then, preheat oven to 400 degrees and roll out dough to desired thickness. Also, to ensure crispy crust, bake the dough for 8 minutes before putting any toppings on it. Then, take out of the oven, put on your toppings and bake for an additional 12-15 minutes or until cheese turns golden brown.

My Favorites

December 28, 2011

Things have calmed down for us this week (until we visit home for NYE) so I've been organizing all my christmas gifts, cupboards and getting rid of excess kitchen supplies. I love organizing!! Santa was very good to me this year. (And by Santa, I mean my family and Matt) I received such great gifts that I am so excited about! Here are some of my favorites...

I am BIG into baking/cooking and all things in the kitchen so imagine my shock when I opened my KitchenAid Professional mixer.... in red!!! Matt did an exceptional job!

And something that is totally different: my jewelry tree from my Mom. I love the look of it - and there are SO many holes/areas to put earrings and necklaces. I might have had way too much fun hanging my jewelry on it! :)

What are your favorite Christmas gifts this year???

Easy Christmas Nails

December 27, 2011

Though it's kind of hard to see my nails, I love this picture!
So for Christmas, I had planned to go with dark green polish and do a tree design. After trying the tree, ripping off my polish in the process, THEN messing up my mani by packing for home I let go of that design (for now).
Once home, I opted to borrow my Mom's nail polish and go red. (I also thought I needed SOME color since my Christmas Eve outfit was all black) This is the same red I used in this blog post. My sister helped me with the starburst design.

In this pic you can see my nails better!
It's very simple:
1. Apply the base color on your whole nail(s), let dry (mine is the silver)
2. Cut thin strips of tape and place them any way you want (leaving them hanging past your nail to easily pull off)
3. Paint over the whole nail with top color (mine is the red)
4. Remove the strips of tape and ta da!

Christmas Eve

Dress: Zara
Tights: Alloy
Shoes: Nine West via Ross
Necklace: Target

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I am loving this look... and decided to play with black and blue. I did do a bold red lip (which prompted a "WOAH!" from my Mother) but I went with it. You can barely tell in this pic ~ but don't worry! I'll be rocking it again and will be sure to get a good picture of it.

December 21, 2011

Counting down until I'm done with my job (for good) and going home for Christmas:

2 days!! :)

To prepare, I (tried) to finish my shopping. My one goal was to get the necessary ingredients for a red lip. I'm always wearing lip gloss but no real color so I'm tryin' something new, people!

I will definitely keep y'all posted on my rouge. :)

Tata for now!

I am DYING to get these matchstick chords from J.Crew. They come in many colors, but I'm loving this red (at least to start my collection ;).

Mac lipliner in Redd

I'm also feeling a bit daring and want to try a red lip. (When going bold on the lip be sure to stay neutral in the other makeup!) I'm thinking the holiday is a perfect time to try it. I love lipgloss and neutral colors - but definitely getting a stick of this! (stay tuned)

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! In red!!!

Pepperoni Pizza Bites

Pepperoni Pizza Bites

This is yet another Pinterest find and I couldn't wait to try them.

They're an adaptation from a Rachael Ray recipe and oh my they turned out so yummy!

I'm all about sharing, so check out the recipe below.

3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
pinch of salt (optional)
pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
3/4 c. whole milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese**
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1 c. cubed pepperoni
1/2 c. pizza sauce

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a mini muffin pan**. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, salt and red pepper flakes. Then whisk in the milk and egg. Stir in pepperoni and cheeses; let stand for 10 minutes.

2. Stir the batter again and divide among the muffin cups. Bake until puffed and golden, 20~25 minutes.

3. Meanwhile, microwave the pizza sauce and serve as a dipping sauce.**

**I didn't have Mozzarella, so I substituted Jalapeno cheddar. It was delicious and had a little kick to it.
**We don't own a mini muffin pan, so I used a regular size and it made 12 puffs. Worked out perfect!
**Also, I kept the sauce cold. I like the way it contrasted with the hot puffs.

I think it is pretty accurate to say I am addicted to Pinterest. I've always loved crafts and DIY and this site is amazing for everything you can think of -- and beyond! There are so many things I want to try from there and I'm having such a fun time doing it. Here is my recent project:

An old cereal box now holds our important bills/papers!! Step by step directions are below :)

The finished product!

1. Start with any cereal box of your choice.

2. Cut about a third down the box, straight across ( I made sure the papers would peek out of the top) Be sure you only do the front panel.. not the sides!
Next, cut out the diagonal sides.

3. Cover with your favorite paper!

4. Hang on your refrigerator with a magnetic clip.

I've always loved jewelry but I'm really getting into bigger, statement pieces - especially necklaces. Something that adds flair and makes that boring black T-shirt sparkle and seem a bit more dressier. This is a recent find -- at Target (!) for $15. I was perusing the sale rack, saw this gem and even though it was in the wrong place (and therefore not on sale) I had to get it anyway. I'm also not much for gold -- yet another thing I'm getting into. I wore this necklace to work with a simple black shirt with a cardigan and received so many compliments! I feel fabulous in it and I looove it. I'm already thinking of what I can wear it with next.

Today's lesson: it's okay to stray from the norm of what you wear -- jewelry, clothing, anything! You just may be surprised. ;)

December 6, 2011

As this was boiling away- I was blogging. I forgot
it and (slightly) overcooked my Ramen! But I'll still eat it :)
It's a cold rainy day so I need something hot for lunch. Every time I eat Ramen I am transported back to long ago.......Ramen noodles remind me of my dorm days at Clarion U. I distinctly remember trudging down to the lobby kitchen (no microwaves in dorm rooms because apparently they can cause fires) from room 329 to microwave my Ramen in a purple bowl. I had gotten pretty darn good at using that microwave. Late night eating while surfing the internet  doing homework. Mmmhmm.

I just had to post this -- I'm feeling nostalgic. Thinking back to my college days and the amazing times I had.

What makes you nostalgic??

Fashion Monday

2 words: Toggle Coat.

I am loving this look for the winter. I think these are so cute and finally one of them will be mine all mine! They make an outfit look so adorable (peep Taylor to the right) and of course- keep you warm.

Forever 21 has cute ones -- but I found an even better one online at Piperlime (my go-to site for pretty much anything). It is majorly on sale and has fur around the hood. Love.

The way Taylor (yes, we're on a first name basis) uses it over an outfit with tights and loafer heels? Adorable. Tights actually do keep your legs warm in the winter despite beliefs. Navy is very preppy and cute in a good way.
The coat I am waiting on to plop down at my door is a cream color. I figure I can do a lot with it -- scarf, outfit, gloves you name it!

This is definitely another winter look to toggle into. :)

Happy Shopping!!
