I Suffer from PMS

September 29, 2011

Sometimes you just see things that fit you to a T.... I was going through my cell phone pictures and I found this gem from when a friend and I were strolling through the scrapbooking convention. It makes me laugh every time I see it. Happy almost Friday!

Diagnosis: Sweet Tooth

September 28, 2011

That's pretty much what my dentist appointment boiled down to today.

For picking a professional lab coat-wearer with a bow tie, I did pretty well and can breathe a sigh of relief. I like my dentist!

And in the words of my dude: "Lay off the sweets and soda." Now, I have no clue what 'soda' is, but I don't drink it. Pop, I have every once in a blue moon but now I guess never again (which is not a problem)!

More importantly... sweets?! I have a big issue with cutting those off. Chocolate, sour gummies, salt water taffy (have a box of it as we speak), cookies and cake oh my! That's like telling me I have to lay off the high heels. I will have to work on that.... slowlyyyy. To be honest, I really don't eat that much in sweets. But I guess what I am eating is hurting my gums and teeth. (No cavities ever still though! :)

So, 1 dentist appointment turned into 2 more hour long sessions in which I will be numb. Yikes. Hey, it could be worse and at least I'll have some more fun stuff to blog about! :)

Fashion Monday

September 26, 2011

In this FM post, I was inspired by dresses and shoes I recently saw that were animal print. (I actually bought the shoes, which I'll show later)
I love love love animal print: leopard, cheetah, zebra, giraffe... it all can look fabulous when worn right of course. It is such a timeless, classic, never-going-out-of-style way to spruce up a wardrobe. In my opinion, you can never own too much animal print (just like shoes)-- just don't wear it all at once please!!

I've come up with a few ways you can wear animal prints and look fabulous, not like you're a leocheebraffe.*

1. Less is more. You don't want to wear a leopard print wrap dress and leopard heels. WAY too much animal print goin' on there! Keep the print small, or to one area (belt, dress, shoes, etc) I think animal prints look so classic with black, tan and reds. For example: today to work I wore a simple black pleated dress with a red cardigan and black/tan leopard shoes (pictured below). I keep the colors similar but punch it up with a red cardigan. And animal print at your feet -- hellooooo! Love that look.

2. Stay away from cheap-looking prints. Please I don't ever want to see you wearing leopard spandex or a glittery cheetah top with neon colors. Ew.

3. Balance your animal print with your hair/makeup. If you're wearing a leopard print dress, keep your hair and makeup simple. Too much can look like you went out the night before and never changed. If you're wearing leopard print shoes, glam up your hair and makeup a bit!

4. Have fun! Keep it simple, and fabulous at the same time -- like these shoes:

Love at first sight.
I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them and they're my size. That's when you know you gotta buy something! They're Enzo Angiolini c/o Nordstrom Rack. Another great part (besides the bows on the back)? They're refurbished and were only $35. Me-ow!

* (n) A person wearing too much animal print which results in him/her looking like a leopard, cheetah, zebra and giraffe all in one. ie not cute.

Pasta Mexicana

September 25, 2011

Matt and I dusted off the Taste of Home recipe book, delved in to find a new recipe to make for dinner last night and this is what we chose. It's the perfect marriage between pasta and mexican food and it's actually not a heavy meal like I thought it'd be!

So mix up the margaritas and make this easy peasy meal while you practice saying 'Ole'!

Enchilada Stuffed Shells

What you'll need:
15 uncooked jumbo pasta shells
1 lb. lean ground turkey (we used ground beef instead)
1 can (10 oz.) enchilada sauce
1/2 tsp. dried minced onion
1/4 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 c. fat-free refried beans (omitted from my shells, but not Matt's :)
1 c. (4 oz.) shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
(we also added a few dollops of sour creme)

Cook pasta according to package directions. In a nonstick skillet, cook through turkey over medium heat; drain. Stir in enchilada sauce and seasonings; set aside.

Place a rounded teaspoonful of refried beans in each pasta shell, then fill with turkey mixture. Place in a baking dish coated with nonstick cooking spray.

Cover and bake for 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle with cheese. Bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.

OCMD 2011

September 24, 2011

Matt and I took a couple days and went to Ocean City, Maryland. And today, I just discovered PhotoShop so I made a little collage of our trip. :) It was so much fun: sand, sun, great food and relaxation!

I also found these little gems at a souvenir store! Matt is a common name, right? Well, my name isn't -- at least spelled with an 'i' and I can never find any personalized nick-knacks. But wouldn't you know we found one! We don't have bikes to put these on but I've decided I'm going to use them in my OCMD scrapbook. Can't wait to work on those pages!

Mission: Missoni

So much PURPLE!! :)
So I went to Target on Tuesday in search of the Missoni line.

When I got there around 10:45am there was hardly anything left! And I wasn't the only one searching. There were a few shirts/socks, no shoes except kids and an ugly green jacket in size XL.
The line was all over the store but I ended up with some goodies!

I finally got rain boots -- cheap because they're kids size 3! And the dress shirt looked odd on the hanger, but I tried it on and loved it (the last one of my size!).
Gotta love a good deal on great clothes!

I love Target. Who doesn't??!

Now, there's a new reason to love the store, starting tomorrow... The Missoni for Target line comes out and I am so excited! I've seen some of the line in fashion magazines and it's so fabulous.

The zig-zag prints, fun bold colors in scarves, dresses, room decor and tons more. It's simply amazing and fresh and I love it!

The line will be in Target stores starting tomorrow -- but not in all locations. I've searched online, and haven't found any specific dates on when the Target near you will receive it. Guess I'll just have to keep checking! I figure I'll spice up my Tuesday and see if it's out yet. In the meantime, I've found some pictures below....

I LOVE love love these pillows!!!
So many possibilities with the pattern & colors!
Happy Shopping! xo

Weekend Wrap

This past weekend was another great one! Matt and I went back to PA to his parent's house. It was a great relaxing time! Saturday we went to a fish place and it was so cool! I snapped some pictures below that reminded me of a great movie...

Just keep swimming!

Know which movie I mean? :)

Comfort Food Is Comforting

September 7, 2011

Another rainy/blah day so I'm sharing a good comfort food recipe Matt and I LOVE making!! Bon appetite!

Chicken & Rice

What you'll need:

1 tbsp. vegetable oil
4 chicken breasts
1 can (10 3/4 oz.) condensed cream of chicken soup
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
2 c. uncooked white rice (we use the boxed cheesy rice- much better!)
2 c. frozen fresh broccoli (because I'm picky, we omit this :)

Heat oil in skillet.
Cut up chicken in bite-sized pieces; cook in skillet for 10 minutes or until done. Remove from pan.
Stir soup, water, paprika and pepper in skillet to a boil. Stir in rice & broccoli. Reduce heat.
Return chicken to skillet.
Cover and cook for 5 minutes or so.

Matt and I keep it even more simple: we cook the chicken, cheesy rice and add everything together in a square pan. Then, we throw it in the oven for a bit.. topped with cheese or bread crumbs. Yum. You should definitely try it and let me know how it goes!

Dreary Day

September 6, 2011

The only time Oscar is well-behaved.

It's a rainy, cold day like today that makes me want to put on the sweats and curl up with a movie or good book. So I think I'll do that ~ and probably the rest of the week since the weather will be really crappy. But bring it on! Pulling out my fall/winter clothes can wait another day, or three. :)

Bye Bye, Summer

September 5, 2011

It's that time again: the point in the year when you kiss each and every one of your summer clothes goodbye as they lay down in the tote.. cozy and smooshed until 2012. (What, you don't kiss your clothing?! Oh. Me either....)

On this edition of "Fashion Monday" I have decided to write about transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall. I don't know what the weather forecast looks like where you live, but this week in Maryland is supposed to be rain and more rain. Seems like a good time to start packing away the tanks and sundresses.

So here are some items I'm looking forward to wearing in the cooler days:

1. Fur Vests (fake of course!)

2. Striped dresses in heavier fabrics... (I just got one from J.Crew I LOVE, but that's for another FM blog post)

3. Cognac boots

4. Dark, flared jeans

I'm actually excited for a change in seasons and wardrobe, so I can wear my favorites and of course add on to them. :) Happy shopping!

The band was really good!

Our seats were almost on the 50 yd line. So cool!

This is what my weekend, well Saturday, looked like! Matt and I went with friends to the Penn State football game. I must say, going to the game made me like college football! PSU-that is. It was so much fun to cheer the Nittany Lions on as they pummeled Indiana State U. Our tailgating neighbors were so nice, too! We even stopped (and stood in line) at the Creamery to cool off with ice cream afterwards. Great weekend. How was yours?
